From broke DJ to health tech founder.
Here's a breakdown of my wild career:
1. Studied audio engineering in college
Growing up, my Mom taught Carnatic (South Indian classical) music. She inspired me to pick up the violin.(eventually ditched violin to become a DJ) I always had a liking for music, so I figured it would be cool to study that in college.
2. Audio Engineer at Westlake Recording Studios
Fun fact: It was the place Michael Jackson recorded Thriller. Which was cool and all, but I was working 12+ hr days and earning minimum wage. I was working like a dog, but I didn't know any better. Then, I met a dude at a bar who presented me with a unique opportunity. (I've gotten a lot of jobs and opportunities from dudes at bars)
3. Started working at Disney doing global show productionI quadrupled my earnings and only had to work 40 hrs/week.(Woo hoo!)
I worked there for 1.5 years, but I was itching to get back into the audio side of things.
4. Joined DisneyToon Studios as an Engineer
I worked on Planes 1 and 2, Tinkerbell, and got credits in 5 movies. I was having a blast, but I was having even more fun as a part-time DJ in LA. So I quit my job at Disney.
5. Full-time DJ in Los Angeles
I was 25 years old and having the time of my life. But I was living gig to gig, and eventually, I blew through my savings. Unfortunately, my DJ earnings couldn't keep up with my LA lifestyle.I considered driving for Uber until another opportunity came my way.
6. Founding Team at Integra Connect
My Dad was a successful health tech entrepreneur. He had a friend starting a new company, and I joined. We did 8-figures in the first year of business.
7. MBA from London Business School
I spent 5 years at Integra Connect and wanted to get my MBA. I studied entrepreneurship and played lots of golf. I won the LBS x Imperial College Healthcare Hackathon in my second year. One of the judges loved my idea so much that he asked if I wanted to build it with him. I passed on the opportunity because I had another idea in the works.
8. Career-changing conversation with my mentor
I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do post-MBA. Then my mentor shared an insight that gave me clarity. Congress passed a law requiring EHR vendors to make patient data publicly accessible via APIs. This presented a game-changing opportunity to build things with patient data.
9. Founded Consolidate Health
Our vision is to build a one-stop shop for patient data:
1. Making it easier for healthcare providers to deliver personalized care
2. Empowering patients to take control of their data so the bad guys can't sell it for profits
